SHANKO Rugs Mirror Icelandic Wild Nature
Sigrun Shanko, EUWIIN Award 2017 Winner, has worked not only in the financial sector for many years but also as an artist. She creates original natural wool rugs inspired by the wild landscape of Iceland under the company name, Shanko Rugs.
The nominee weaves in a gentle palette of colours inspired by nature, earthy browns, burnt ochre, soft greys and accented with vivid reds to symbolise volcanoes. These rugs introduce the viewer to the almost ethereal landscape of Iceland. The nominee’s art/design may seem simple on the surface but there is a huge amount of research and indeed a whole story behind every piece.
The rugs are made to be used on the floor but often they are found mounted on the wall so the owners can enjoy the art and use them for sound reduction. So one can say they have multiple functions.
The nominee’s outstanding quality rugs have gained reputation from RIBA – The Royal Institute of British Architects, ELLE Interior Magazine and the Rolls Royce Enthusiast Club RREC to name but a few. To gain further information about the rugs, please check: www.shankorugs.com
