Daniela Tarnita: Romanian Professor, Writer & Researcher
Prof. Ph.D. Daniela Tarnita has graduated from the University of Craiova, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. She has completed her doctoral studies within the field of Engineering Sciences and has been awarded the title of Doctor in Engineering Sciences.
Since 1984 she has been teaching at the University of Craiova. In 2001 she became a full-professor in Biomechanics; Mechanisms Theory and Strength of Materials. Starting in 2007, she has coordinated PhD students in the field of Biomechanics and Bimedical Engineering.
She is the Head of Biomechanics Laboratory, INCESA Research Centre, University of Craiova and the Head of Research Centre in Mechanical Engineering, University of Craiova; She has been the the Head of the Doctoral School in Mechanical Engineeringin the University of Craiova for 4 years.
The scientific research activity of Prof. PhD. Daniela Tarniță is focused on very important and actual directions including Biomechanics; Robotics; Numerical simulations and analyses with finite element method in biomechanics; Intelligent materials and their medical applications; Design and optimising of orthopaedic implants and of rehabilitation devices; Analysis of Normal and pathological human gait; Experimental evaluations of human movements; Nonlinear dynamics of human movement.
Over the years, Professor Daniela Tarnita has published more than 165 articles, among which 77 ones are included in ISI journals, ISI proceedings and BDI journals. Professor Tarnita has written 14 books published at prestigious national publishing houses and 18 book chapters in Springer Publishing House and InTech Publishing House.
She has followed many research-documentation stages: Princeton University Princeton, USA (May 2015); Harvard University, USA (May 2008 and May 2009). She was invited as visiting professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen (November 2007). The professor’s concerns in the field of research have been directed towards the completion of interdisciplinary research through patents.
Collaboration with her husband, who is an experienced orthopedic surgeon, has led to interdisciplinary research with practical, concrete results, with innovative solutions to some of the problems faced by orthopedists and their patients. They started from the idea that finding innovative solutions for patients’ clinical problems is an important challenge, given the social impact and quality of life of patients. Starting from the intra-operative and postoperative clinical observations made over the years by orthopedic surgeons on the problems that arise in the case of fractures osteosynthesis or in the case of prosthesis, the interdisciplinary team coordinated by Prof. Daniela Tarnita has looked for simple, innovative solutions that are superior from a constructive and functional point of view.
The team consists of experienced specialists, as well as young PhD students or postdoctoral students, covering as the expertise, the main fields of interdisciplinary research: mechanical engineering, advanced materials, computer assisted design, orthopedics, mechatronics. In the last 5 years Daniela Tarnita and her team obtained 6 national patents and applied for 4 national patents in the field of medicine.
