MobaratElOloum: Supported by Lebanese Prime Minister
Under the patronage of his Excellency the Lebanese Prime Minister Mr. Saad El Hariri, more than 500 students from 160 different schools gathered at the Rafic Hariri Lebanese University Campus – Hadath, Beirut between 26 and 28 April 2018, to participate in MobaratElOloum 2018.
MobaratElOloum 2018 is a science fair organized by the National Association for Sciences and Research (NAS) for the fifteenth consecutive year. During the first two days, the students presented 180 innovative projects in front of the public (students, media, experts …) and the verdict of the jury, in the following categories: 1) Robotics and functional projects, 2) ICT, 3) Environment and Natural Resources, 4) Health and Life Science, 5) Physics and Chemistry, 6) Astronomy.
The events were opened on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at ten o’clock in the morning by the presence of NAS President,Dr. Ahmad Chaalanand the Rector of the Lebanese University Prof. Fouad Ayoub represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences,Dr. Bassam Badran and representatives of NAS partners in the fields of education, innovation, and media.
Dr. Chaalan welcomed the participating students “who come to know each other and exchange ideas and experiences”. He added, “There are about 10 university scholarships waiting for the winners, in addition to about 10 million Lebanese pounds as prizes, and more than 100 medals and hundreds of certificates of participation at the fair, and the possibility of the participation of some winning projects in international exhibitions of inventions abroad.”
Dr. Bassam Badran, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the Lebanese University, expressed his pleasure at seeing “students who give freely with pleasure and self-confidence”. He also thanked the NAS for its constant efforts to spread the culture of creativity and innovation through its events and activities.
NAS concluded its 15th edition of MobaratElOloum 2018 with the closing ceremony and announcement of the results on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at eleven o’clock, at the congress center of the Rafic Hariri University Campus in Hadath.
After the Lebanese national anthem, a documentary video was projected about NAS activities. Dr. Chaalan then delivered a speech in which he welcomed the public “in this national project that succeeds in stimulating scientific thought, reinforcing doctrines, and honoring the creativity of Lebanese youth aspiring to a dignified role”. In addition, he presented the NAS projects that aim to support and sponsor young innovators either through the business incubator or the Beirut International Invention Show (BIIS).
The rector of the Lebanese university Prof. Fouad Ayoub expressed, in his speech, his joy to attend this ceremony and to see these young inventors. He said in his speech, “The mission done by NAS is one of the most beautiful human missions, because it is very important to propagate the scientific culture and stimulate its reflection among the younger generation, which is determined to build the future”. He concluded by highlighting the partnership agreement between the Lebanese University and NAS, and the similarity of vision and goals between the two.
Then, it was the speech of the patron of the events Prime Minister Hariri, declared by his adviser Dr. Daoud Al-Sayegh “We are with NAS to spread the culture of science and innovation among these young inventors who are responsible for the preservation of the national treasure of Lebanese creativity”. He concluded with the wishes of success and advancement of the Prime Minister for NAS.
