ISIF 2016 Report
March 2016, Istanbul – The first edition of Istanbul International Invention Fair (ISIF) 2016 was organized by the Anatolian Inventions and Inventor Association (ABDER), IFIA full member, during March 3 – 6 in Istanbul Congress Center (ICC). The event was hosted by Turkish Patent Office under the patronage of International Federation of Inventors’ Associations and the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.
The official opening of the event was declared by Prof.Dr. Habip Asan, President of Turkish Patent Institute, Mr. Alireza Rastegar, IFIA President and Yunus Emre Karaosmanoğlu, Deputy Undersecretary of Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.
After appreciating the presence of Governmental and International Representatives and the efforts of ISIF organizers, Mr. Rastegar highlighted the potentiality of a growing economy and invention culture due to the location of Turkey between Europe and Asia. He also added: “Tourism is a prominent feature of Turkey but the time has arrived to make awareness regarding the innovative culture which is made possible through organizing such events as ISIF”.
The aggregation of over 324 exhibitors from 24 countries, and the presence of investors, stakeholders, manufacturers made ISIF a successful event by providing the commercializing and licensing opportunities to the inventors. According to the earliest statistics, 10 national and international inventions have been either commercialized, licensed or distribution agreements were made for them.
The organization of various side events including the seminars, symposiums, workshops, meetings (IFIA, EPO, TPI), B2B forums in the field of invention as well as IFIA World Congress shedding light on Invention Commercialization lend more to its success. Moreover, one of the most important agreements was made between Korean Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) and Anatolia Inventions and Inventors Association (ABDER) for further possible cooperation between Turkey and Korea in the field of innovative activities.
The award ceremony was held on the evening of March 5 with the honorable presence of his Excellency Mr. Fikri ISIK, the minister of Science, Industry and Technology, to commemorate the inventors for finding effective solutions toward the existing problems by granting medals and certificates in three categories of Bronze, Silver and Gold.
During the award ceremony’s opening speech, Mr. Fikri Işık pointed out the accuracy of choosing Istanbul as the event venue regarding the fact that almost half of the patent applications of Turkey are filed in İstanbul. Mr. Işık as well as Mr. Asan, the President of Turkish Patent Institute highlighted the Governmental support to the ISIF event for the future editions of ISIF.
Meanwhile, IFIA Memorial Medal was awarded to Mr. Fikri ISIK as an outstanding figure who has devotedly supported the dissemination of the culture of invention ad innovation in Turkey.
In general, the national and international delegations expressed great satisfaction with the successful organization of ISIF. Moreover, two country delegations offered cooperation proposal to the ISIF organizers and ABDER for the possibilities of organizing the same event in their countries.
